Hubert Gonzales
Sergeant Hubert Gonzales, born April 13th, 1986, served in the Marine Corps for seven years as an Infantryman. He was medically retired due to the wounds that he received while conducting combat operations in Sangin, Afghanistan.
On March 31, 2011, Sergeant Hubert Gonzales was leading his squad on a dismounted patrol in Sangin, Afghanistan. Where he stepped on an IED (Improvised Explosive Device), which fractured his left ankle from the blast and injured his left shoulder. He was MEDEVAC back to San Diego Naval Hospital where he underwent multiple surgeries for his left ankle.
On January 23, 2015, after being in pain for more three and a half years. Sergeant Hubert Gonzales had another surgery at Broke Army Medical Center for an amputation of his left foot. He made the decision to amputate in order to have a better quality of life.
